Straker's Seat

Alec Freeman

Commander Straker left his office.

Colonel Freeman’s gaze followed him, a mixture of various expressions running over his face. Of course he liked taking over the command, when Straker was absent. But why should Ed check in every few hours? Why didn’t he trust him, even not after so many years? He was the Second-In-Command, wasn’t he?

Stepping to the desk, Alec was unsure whether sitting down on Straker's chair or not.

The responsibility seat, how Ed had called it.

He swivelled the chair round and hesitated. Blast the thing! Giving it a kick he turned, heading for the door.
